Cremation Nation

As the chart from the Cremation Association of North America (CANA) illustrates, the US will change from a "Burial Nation" to a "Cremation Nation" by the year 2018, since the cremation rate for the country will top 50%. For this blog posting, in about 100-150 words, finish the following statement:
THE RISE IN CREMATION WILL AFFECT MY FUNERAL SERVICE CAREER...

  1. The rise in cremation will affect my funeral service career positively. With cremation in Pennsylvania at 33.71% in the year 2010, it is projected that in the year 2025 that the cremation rate is increasing approximately 11% nationally. If cremation in Pennsylvania follows the national projection and increases by 11%, the projected percentage for Pennsylvania would be around 45%. With almost half of Pennsylvania consideration cremation there is a lot of extra cremations options that families can consider. If funeral homes market cremation correctly, they are opening a door to a more profitable option that can be available to their families. Families now want more options. Performing the traditional cremation isn’t cutting it anymore. Families want a more practicality way of remembering their love ones. Placing ashes in an urn now has to be put on the back burner. Options such as artwork, statues, fountains; clocks are just the beginning of the turn of more creative ways to remember their love ones.

  2. The rise in cremation will have a negative effect on my career in funeral service, if changes in marketing are not made. I come from rural West Virginia, where the cremation rate is still relatively low. Statistical information has shown that rate to climb more each year. I feel that this will have a negative impact on the funeral service in my state. What is the reason for this? The public is not informed of their options. Many people in my home state do not fully understand cremation and it’s many options. Most people do not know that they may choose to have a full service with visitation. They believe the old myth that cremation must be an immediate action. I feel that more cremation families would choose to have a full service, if they knew that they had this option. Funeral directors are reluctant to even bring-up cremation. They should be marketing cremation right away. Let’s face the facts, cremation is not going away. The only funeral directors that will make it in the future, will be the ones who properly market cremation. I think that without properly informing the public of their options, the funeral service in WV is in trouble. This does not have to be the case, let’s take action now.

  3. This will make it possible for people who do not have money to afford a descent home going. Today within our society at this time churches still frown upon cremations. With in the black culture this is rings true. My thoughts are to be mindful of our pass but also to prepare for the future. The death rate in the inner city is high and most of the people who are dying do not have insurance. The young adult that is out their does not know what it takes to bury a friend or family member, some adult do not know that there is no credit in death nor at most funeral homes. Today you can not go into your average funeral home and get credit, the bill for services most be paid prior to any viewing or calling hour .Now lets be clear ,you are valued as a person where or not you are being cremated or buried. However you need to know that insurance today will help pave the way for that day when we all who live most meet. Prepare people and look into cremations and know how it can help you and your family.

  4. This rise will affect my funeral home both negatively and positively. The area where I will be working has a mixed population of older and younger Catholics, which will push the rate of cremation downward. Because the area I will be working in there is often only one funeral home in each town reducing competition, which causes prices to increase. Due to the fact that the area contains a large percentage middle income people, cremation becomes more financially attractive than a traditional funeral; therefore when setting prices it would be important to balance the price of cremation verses the price of a traditional funeral in order to prevent the majority of your business to turn to cremation. It’s important to not market your funeral home as a discount cremation provider, because that would become all the business you will attract.
